OASIS ebXML collaboration protocol ratified

OASIS this week ratified a new version of the ebXML-based standard used to define e-business partners' technical capabilities and agreements, according to officials at the Boston-based standards organization.

The ebXML Collaboration Protocol Profile and Agreement (CPPA) v2.0 can immediately be deployed by developers of e-business applications, OASIS officials said.

The protocol profile portion of the standard ''defines a party's message-exchange capabilities and the business collaborations that it supports,'' according to Dale Moberg, chair of the OASIS ebXML CPPA Technical Committee. The agreement portion of the standard ''defines the way two business parties will interact in performing the chosen business collaborations,'' he explained.

The standard is also designed to help IT organizations migrate EDI and other legacy applications to the ebXML platform, added Moberg.

OASIS officials said the ebXML CPPA standard was developed by representatives of several high-tech firms, including Commerce One, Cyclone Commerce, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intel, Iona, Mercator, SAP, SeeBeyond, Sterling Commerce, Sun Microsystems, Sybase, Tibco, Vitria and webMethods.

In other OASIS news, the consortium also announced that it has published a listing of ''ebXML implementations, projects, products, and industry initiatives from around the world.'' It is posted at http://www.ebxml.org/ebxml_jmt/index.htm#documents.
