XML engine combines varied data sources

XML database maker Ipedo continues its move into the realm of data
integration with its recently released Ipedo XML Views product. The software
unifies information for portals, Web apps and Web services, said Chris
Parkerson, product manager, Ipedo.
The software can tap into XML and non-XML sources. Views can be manipulated
using XQuery and XSLT. Included is an indexing engine that speeds queries across
AXML collections. Queries and results can be cached to further speed processing,
noted Parkerson.
In action, said Parkerson, the system ''pulls in data on the fly.'' Yet, at
the same time, the setup pushes some work back to the databases. ''It's not
always a good thing to bring back all the results--you don't want to bring back
more than you need,'' he said.
''You can do queries on multiple databases, and do joins across [diverse]
data types,'' said Parkerson, highlighting a task that now challenges many
developers. XML Views includes support for JDBS, JMS and SOAP, and can be
deployed in conjunction with J2EE app servers such as BEA's WebLogic or IBM's
WebSphere.
